The Budgetbeam Dream

With more than four decades of practical application experience shaping its development, the Budgetbeam flexible shaft coupling stands as a testament to its pursuit of performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.

In applications that employ flexible shaft couplings, the utmost care must be taken in selecting the appropriate specifications. A truly ideal shaft coupling not only effectively transmits torque without backlash but also adeptly absorbs any misalignments that might arise in the course of operation.

Several other factors come into play, including the operational environment, temperature, rotation direction, and whether angular or parallel offset requirements are present. Often overlooked in mechanical designs, the axial movement of shafts can play a pivotal role, particularly when thermal expansion is a pertinent consideration. Thus, a flexible shaft coupling is not a mere physical connection but an indispensable component crucial to a machine's overall functionality.

The design of the Budgetbeam shaft coupling employs a proven helical beam geometry configuration with options for one, two, or three starts, all while maintaining a unified construction. This distinctive design combines high torsional stiffness and robust torque transmission capabilities with the ability to absorb any misalignment of the shafts. Rigorous manufacturing processes ensure product quality, ultimately leading to a reliability that requires no second thought.

Attaching the shaft coupling to both the motor and driven shafts has been simplified. There are two available designs. The first, utilizing a set screw shaft attachment approach, employs dual sets of grub screws positioned 120 degrees apart to securely fasten the coupling directly onto the shaft at each hub end. The second design, known as integral clamp attachment, guarantees shaft concentricity and offers comprehensive shaft clamping.

ABSSAC also provides specialized designs, tailored to suit unique applications based on considerations of attachment, performance, and budget constraints.

Constructed from high-grade Aluminium, the Budgetbeam shaft coupling can accommodate angular misalignment of up to 5 degrees and parallel shaft misalignment of 0.1mm. Stocked in metric bores ranging from 4mm to 12mm (including sizes like 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm), the Budgetbeam shaft coupling emerges as a cost-effective and superior means of precluding torsional wind-up in drive designs.

This economical connection solution proves particularly well-suited for applications like closed-loop encoders and servomotors, as well as for connecting lead screws to motors—both scenarios necessitating high torsional stiffness to prevent registration loss.
