Electroforms - Unique shapes

Electroforms are a formidable product package. For those engineers familiar with the traditional electroforming process we are offering a new way of looking at both complexity of shape, wall thickness tolerance, integral strength and capability.

The process begins with a piece of aluminium stock or bar. Next the internal geometry of the electroform is machined into the aluminium to produce a mandrel. After inspection, nickel, copper, gold, silver or combinations there of are electrodeposited onto the mandrel to a precise wall thickness. Following a post plate inspection the plated mandrel is trimmed to produce the desire end configuration and dimensions. Finally, the aluminium mandrel is then dissolved in a caustic solution leaving behind the completed electroform. At this point special finishes or coatings may be applied.

The technology we offer can and has been used on a hole range of applications in aerospace, medical equipment, electronic chip manufacture, microwave applications, cryogenic cooling and PCB automatic testing activity to name a few.

Our quality is of the best and where the miniature metal bellows are concerned there are none that compete with bellow diameters under 6mm and on request we can supply down to diameters of 0.07mm.

Some advantages of our electroforms:

  • Light weight combined with high toughness Limitless geometries are possible, even with varying cross sections
  • They can be manufactured with varying wall thickness in a single part
  • Electroforms can be made integral with our bellows, eliminating the need for welding or soldering
  • Diameters as small as 0.020 in.
  • Close internal tolerances
  • Suitable for extreme temperatures as low as -423°F below zero
  • We can supply electroforms which range from 0.020 in. to 8 in. cross section.
  • Even larger parts are possible, for certain geometries.
  • Typically, our electroforms are nickel, but copper and gold are also available, as a complete part, as a lamina or as a surface finish.
  • Mirror finishes and low reflectance coatings can be provided as required.

The above information gives you a concise overview of the product capabilities. If you require more detailed information please feel free to contact our sales engineers, who will be more than happy to help. Alternatively you can download a technical catalogue directly from our web site or request a product CD to be sent for your attention.
