Generate only flexures
Sometimes an application can benefit from a little flexibility. However, the flexibility may be needed at a post design stage, which can then not be placed within the system without major changes to the original design. Perhaps the actual machined parts/blanks have been produced and the design is committed. Alternatively, if the customer has machining capability, it might become more cost effective for them to produce the blank in certain applications.
In all cases, we can help by actually generating the flexure into your part.!
Think about it. One of the greatest advantages of the specialist flexure beam product is in its ability to adapt into applications where simply others can not follow. It is an advanced and unique solution that generally exceeds the capabilities of common flexible shaft coupling designs. Since it is manufactured from one piece of material, there are no moving parts as the shaft misalignments are simultaneously absorbed. The flexure, by the nature of its design, is constant in its torque delivery and has low rail loads during rotation. It does not require lubrication and is silent during operation. The performance capability of each flexure is determined by six major characteristics: flexure outside diameter, inside diameter, coil thickness, material, number of coils, and number of starts. By altering these characteristics, torque capacity, angular and parallel misalignment capabilities and torsional stiffness rates can be modified to suit specific specifications.
Uniquely, the flexure can be tailored to each application.
An example of where this product enhancement was on a laser control adjustment shaft which was exerting high radial loads within the system. At the post design stage, the customer now required a precision adjustment as well as a smooth method to accommodate for misalignments within the system. The solution was to take the customers shaft and generate a high torsional stiffness coil configuration flexure within their part. The photographs of the right show some other successful examples of "generate flexure only parts".
